Here is the story of how I came to dress up dining
rooms, colorwash bedrooms, and make kids' rooms into
dreamlands.
I started painting decorative interiors a number of
years ago while I was an Art History major in college.
I apprenticed Barbara Campbell, who is well known in
Providence and the Boston area for her creative
interior painting and designs. While we worked in
residences in Providence, Weston, Sudbury, Wellesley,
Newton, and Natick, Barbara taught me various
techniques and skills, ranging from building up layers
of glazes, to combining colors harmoniously throughout
a home. Most importantly, she taught me how to find a
client's personal pallette, and to enhance these
guidelines with my own knowledge of paint, color
theory, and a little spontaneity, to make a perfect
painted design.
I have since worked as a graphic designer, kept a
painting studio, and gone back to school for my MFA in
Painting, working on and off with Barbara all the
while. After earning my MFA, I set up my own painting
business. I still consult with my painting mentor
frequently, but I have been working with my own
clients since November, 2002.
In the summer of 2003, I formed a painting partnership
called Four Hands with my friend Ben Chaffee. Ben is
skilled in restoration and housepainting, and also
happens to be in a rock band. We share resources,
trade skills, and occasionally work together on larger
jobs. If you live in Boston and would like your walls
skillfully spruced, prepped and painted by someone who
will listen to you and not leave dribbles of paint
everywhere, I highly recommend you contact Ben.
Working as a decorative painter has been a wonderful
way to support and develop my studio painting. Please
visit the "portfolio" section of this website to see
examples of recent work in I have done in and around
Boston. All of these jobs fell somewhere between
bringing a client's existing ideas to fruition, and
bringing my own ideas to the table. Please contact me
if you are interested in seeing a more extensive
portfolio or setting up a consultation.
