Pricing: Guidelines and Procedures
I price my work by the project. This charge accounts
for: my time, travel, materials, prep work of the
surface, square footage of the surface, and detail
work.
I charge a fee for my time for consultations. This fee
becomes a credit to the deposit for the project if we
book a start date at that time.
To the consultation I bring fan decks for choosing
basecoat colors, my portfolio, sample boards from
previous work, and a sketch pad for murals. At the
time of the consultation I will initiate color
selections and, for handpainting, brief sketches. If
you desire more detailed sketches or painted sample
boards following the consultation, there is a fee for
my time.
Preparing for the consultation
Even if you do not have specific ideas in mind, it is
helpful if you have taken the time to consider a few
things before we meet. It is extremely useful if you
can produce pictures- from magazines, books, internet,
etc- of designs that you like. Even pictures of
designs you do NOT like can be good for clarity. I
cannot stress how useful it is to look at a visual
reference while you explain your vision, likes and
dislikes, and needs.
Here are some questions to ask yourself:
do you want this room to be dramatic or understated?
do you like color to be gentle or intense?
do you like pure color, or neutral tones with accents
of color?
should the texture be muted or high in contrast?
do you want the room to feel open or cozy?
do you want the room to feel warm or cool?
are there objects in the room (such as art work,
upholstery, or plants) that you particularly like?
Perhaps they can be used as a reference for motif,
pattern, or color.
For Kids Rooms:
You don't need me to tell you that your kid is
brimming with ideas. Even if their room is messy, they
have unique thoughts and wonderful enthusiasm for what
should go on the walls, ceiling, or floor.
If your child wants to be involved in the
brainstorming process, encourage them to choose out
some of their favorite books or pictures to show me.
We can take motifs from any visuals- from their
bedspread to the sky outside their window. If you
can't come up with pictures, think about themes in
nature, sports, stories, music, or whatever else keeps
them dreaming.
